This special issue of Geoscience Canada Reprints is a memorial dedicated to the life and geological career of Harold ‘Hank’ Williams, FRSC (1934-2010). For more than four decades, Hank Williams mapped, described, correlated, and interpreted rocks in the Appalachian-Caledonian orogen; first at the Geological Survey of Canada and later at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Hank was known for his keen ability to glean critical relationships from field observations and compile these data into meaningful regional syntheses which brought him global renown. Other talents, such as the fiddling of reels and jigs, were relegated to avocation status, but still brought Hank distinction. This volume represents a collection of papers by authors who either worked with or knew Hank in some capacity or who capture his spirit and interests in their research. It also expands upon Hank’s geological vision of regional syntheses while acknowledging his musical talents and interests.
