Upper Ordovician-Lower Silurian carbonates of Anticosti contain 13 genera and subgenera and 27 species of pentamerids, including one new genus, two new subgenera, and eight new species. Parastrophinella was the only Upper Ordovician pentamerid. The succeeding Rhuddanian formations are dominated by Virgiana. In the Aeronian, Pentamerus, Stricklandia and Kulumbella become common. Highest diversity was in the upper Aeronian to middle Telychian. Virgiana is a reliable index for the middle-late Rhuddanian; Kulumbella occurs only in middle Aeronian; Pentameroides and Costistricklandia are confined to middle and late Telychian. Pentamerid communities lived on a wider range of substrate conditions in the Anticosti Basin than previously believed. This study suggests that their relative depth distribution on carbonate shelves may differ from those of siliciclastic ramps.
